On the 9th of July 1521, 500 years ago, the Sigismund Bell was suspended on the tower of Wawel Cathedral in Kraków. Four days later, on July 13th 1521 it rang for the first time. The bell was founded by Hans Beham from Nuremberg and named after Polish king Sigismund I the Old, who commissioned it. It is regarded to be the most important bell in Poland’s history.
